Evacuation of Gallipoli
In 1915, Matron Jessie Clifton was quickly snapped up by the Australian Army Nursing Service and sent overseas. The nurses’ workload was staggering, including treating the wounded coming from Gallipoli.
In 1950, Jessie was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of her ‘service to the WA Returned Nurses Trust Fund‘.
